If lessons are not enjoyable, they are not effective - so my classes are always punctuated with laughter (even if my own jokes are often feeble!). I have been teaching online for the past 2.4 years, and to my amazement, this has proven to be as impactful as face-to-face lessons. And given that a while back, I could barely use a cell phone, I am exceedingly proud of my ability to conduct effective education through digital cyberspace!
I have been teaching for too many years to count - mostly in South Africa (& a short stint in Saudi Arabia). My students have ranged across ages, cultures, races and proficiency, but the satisfaction of sharing my love for the subject has been constant.
I believe there must be a goal in mind, so I tailor lessons to guide the individual to accomplish this. While I am tolerant of diversions, as long as these add richness to the overall experience and there is something new to learn, I will happily indulge the student's interest.
I know I can confidently claim to be well-respected and, dare-I-say, popular with my students, and the regard is mutual. I have learned so much from young minds, and plan to keep doing so. While I concede that not every teacher works equally well for all, I would be surprised if I was unable to connect with a prospective student. Perhaps because I believe that as long as an individual can think for themselves, there is hope. My pet hate - in addition to the comma-splice and 'pizza's' is willful ignorance.
I am fairly adventurous: my embarking on this latest venture attests to this. I have just relocated to a foreign country where I don't speak the language, and am relishing the new experience. I simply trust that the 'universe is unfolding as it should'.
