My name is Chelsea Rivas and I am from the lovely twin island of Trinidad and Tobago however, I currently live in Dunkerque, France, where I am participating in the TAPIF program until April I am an English-language assistant in two primary schools and one kindergarten, which is giving me great experience working with young children in a school setting. Moreover, I work only 12 hours per week, so I have very flexible hours.
Before moving to France, I taught French at the Alliance Française in Trinidad, working with children between the ages of 5 to 12. I was also a private tutor for a student preparing for the SEA exams (a national high school placement exam in Trinidad and Tobago) and taught a teenager with autism while at the Alliance Française. The latter experience has helped me learn to adapt my teaching approach to different learning needs. This experience has also given me patience, empathy, and a deeper understanding of supporting children with special needs.
While at the Alliance Française, I also had the opportunity to be a private tutor for an adult interested in learning French. These contrasting experiences have taught me how to adapt my teaching methods and lesson plans based on age and my students' learning priorities.
Finally, I have always had a passion for teaching and language learning. I am eager to share my knowledge and love for languages with future students !
Kind regards
Chelsea Rivas
