Hello, It is not always possible – or appropriate – to apply the same methodology to all learners, who have different objectives, environments and learning needs. I am applying the most appropriate method for that learner’s specific objectives, learning style and context. The main methodologies are listed below:
Grammar Translation – the classical method. (In teaching a particular lesson in grammar, I ask the students to memorize the rules, and they should give their own sentences as samples.) Direct Method – discovering the importance of speaking. Audio-lingualism – This method is not so in use anymore... WIthout grammar instructions and rules, communication could not be flexible in specific contexts. Real-life situations are full of unexpected expressions and verbal responses. (GRAMMAR!) Humanistic Approaches – a range of holistic methods applied to language learning(Suggestopedia, Total Physical Response, The Silent Way, Community Language Learning) Communicative Language Teaching – the modern standard method. Classroom activities guided by communicative approach are characterised by trying to produce meaningful and real communication, at all level. Principled Eclecticism – I am trying fit the method to the learner, not the learner to the method. I combine various approaches and methodologies to teach language depending on the aims of the lesson and the abilities of the learners.
