To build the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to deliver clear, engaging, and student-centred English lessons online. I believe in using the old ways of teaching alongside new tools, including AI, to support lesson planning without letting it take over the lesson. Student and staff feedback will also be an important part of improving my teaching.
Short-Term Objectives (1–3 Months)
- Gain experience teaching conversational English to learners of different levels.
- Improve lesson planning and classroom management skills.
- Use AI to help create lesson ideas, activities, and resources while keeping lessons teacher-led and personal.
- Learn to assess student needs and adjust lessons accordingly.
- Build confidence in explaining grammar and vocabulary in a simple and clear way.
Medium-Term Objectives (3–6 Months)
- Create structured lesson plans for beginner, intermediate, and advanced learners.
- Learn more about ESL teaching methods and best practices.
- Improve feedback and error-correction techniques.
- Develop activities that support speaking, vocabulary, and understanding.
- Use student and staff feedback to make lessons better.
Long-Term Objectives (6–12 Months)
- Develop a steady teaching style that combines traditional methods with modern tools.
- Build a strong reputation through positive student outcomes and reviews.
- Create specialised lessons for business English, conversation, or exam preparation.
- Continue professional learning through ESL courses, webinars, and teaching communities.
- Keep building a useful resource bank of authentic materials and AI-supported ideas.
Action Plan
- Read ESL teaching resources and articles each week.
- Observe experienced ESL teachers and use effective techniques in my own lessons.
- Use AI to support lesson planning, but keep the lesson focused on the teacher and the students.
- Review lessons and improve them based on student performance and feedback.
- Keep a teaching journal to reflect on lessons and identify areas for improvement.
- Complete at least one professional development course or certification within the next 12 months.
