My first job was as a professor of classical literature at a university in New YorkCity. I was not sure it was what I wanted long-term, so I spent some time in a marketing situation, during which I learned I was supposed to be a lawyer. That sent me off on a 35 year career in law, ending up as an administrative judge.
So, all in all, I spent my time reading, writing, speaking and hearing English and other languages. This activity calls on all my earlier education and work, and it feels like the absolute best combination, when I can develop student/teacher relationships and unlock the potential of my students.
