Christmas in UK, USA, Australia and New Zealand

When taking English classes, it is always interesting to learn more about the culture and traditions of each country.

Christmas is a time of year celebrated in many countries around the world, with each country having its own unique traditions and customs. In the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia and New Zealand, Christmas is celebrated with some similarities, but also with some cultural differences.

In the United Kingdom, Christmas Day is celebrated on December 25th, but the festive period begins much earlier in November with the installation of Christmas decorations in homes and streets. Families often gather around a traditional meal, consisting of turkey, vegetables, pudding and mulled wine. Children eagerly await the arrival of Father Christmas, who will bring them gifts on Christmas morning. Christmas Day is also an opportunity to watch special TV programs and play games with family.

In the United States, Christmas is also celebrated on December 25th, but the holiday season officially begins after Thanksgiving in November. Families decorate their homes with garlands, lights and a Christmas tree. Children write letters to Santa Claus requesting gifts and can even meet him in shopping malls. On Christmas Day, families often gather around a meal of turkey, mashed potatoes and apple pie. Gifts are exchanged and families can watch Christmas movies together.

In Australia and New Zealand, Christmas is celebrated in the summer season since these countries are located in the Southern Hemisphere. Families often head to the beach and have barbecues in the great outdoors. Christmas decorations often include stars, garlands, and lights, since Christmas trees don't grow naturally in these regions. Santa Claus is still celebrated, but he often trades his traditional red suit for a cooler attire such as board shorts and a t-shirt.

In all of these countries, the spirit of giving and spending time with loved ones is at the heart of Christmas. While each culture has its own unique traditions, the holiday season brings people together to celebrate love, peace and joy.
